I got a degree in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia. It was the most incredible time of my life, and I loved the city of Richmond in a way I have never experienced anywhere else I have ever lived. The spirit of the city, the beautiful parks, the amazing creative scene and artistic people made it such a great place to live and be an artist. One of the things I do when I paint is work from sketches, memories and photos, so I dug back into my personal time machine and relied on some of those wonderful memories and art pieces to produce a series of paintings on parks and gardens in the Richmond area. This one is a combination of Dogwood Dell, a green lawn with a carillon tower on the edge of Byrd park. I have wonderful happy memories of the places in this painting that bring me a warm comfort. The foreground still life and window are an homage to the window paintings of Matisse and the Fauves. I wrote "Love" in the Chinese characters on the vase, in thanks for the inspirations.
