Seeing the beautiful flat topped mesa surrounding Taos mountain is always thrilling to me when I come into town. When the Chamisa blooms in the fall, it is a rapturous sight to behold! Heralding the autumnal season with the welcoming aroma of roasting chiles and pinon in the air, the high altitude makes for deep wonderful colors, and views that go on forever. As the Southwestern winds sway the Chamisa and the deep blue sky pulses behind the scurrying clouds, I hear the music of the sky. The thick yellow embroidery of the tufted Chamisa against the red earth makes such an elegant pattern, it looks like nature is wearing her finery, promenading along the mesa, looking for a partner to dance.
