This was another painting from our Cancun trip. We visited Cenotes, (See-know-tay) which are sinkholes in the limestone that open up to underground rivers of the most beautiful pure azure colored water. We went zip lining into them, swimming, did a jeep drive through the jungle, into cenotes and caves, and went kayaking in an underground cenote river. All of them were spectacular and magical, I tried to capture that feeling in this painting. I sat on the steps and painted several watercolors, which I used as reference for this painting. Every time someone came out of the cave, bunches of butterflies came fluttering out too. The descent into the cenote was lined with limestone walls, which were covered with hanging vines.
