A horse ranch seen near Black Mesa winery is the setting for this painting. I thought it was such a beautiful place to keep horses, with the river nearby, the beautiful mountains and orchards. I have come to make a pattern of the horses by using a group of three, 2 grazing and one watchful, and slightly off to the distance and single one grazing. I find meaning in this grouping of horses that represents the ideas of community versus individuality and security versus peace. When I see horses, it always reminds me of the spirit of individuality and freedom that calls me to the southwest.
