On a starry night in a courtyard of agave totems, a blue heron flies through a dream. I had this dream one night and it is still very vivid in my mind. Agave stalks have always reminded me of hands reaching for the heavens, and here they are reaching for the stars. The heron is flying low, just taking off, heading for the nebulous sky world. The shapes of the herons wings are mirrored in the agave leaves, connecting the heron with the earth as the point of departure. I used an irridescent oil paint for the wings so they would shimmer against the deep red ground.
