The title of this painting is about the thrill of a new family member! From the moment you meet them you know you will love and protect them forever. I did a series of blind contour drawings of this pair of Cooper Hawks which were photographed by my friend Joyce Stark in Ramona. The fluffy chick has eyes wide with wonder, gazing upon this amazing new world! Somewhere out in the Sonoran desert, they sit on a Palo Verde tree branch - truly a Dr. Seuss tree - with the stunning green bark and tiny round leaflets. The other desert flora: willowy Mesquite tree, Barrel Cactus, jumping Cholla Cactus, Aloes and Agaves, dance around the hatchling in joyous tribute.
