Current Location: The Ranch at Taos Gallery
In May, my assistant Isabel and I went to Santa Fe to deliver some new paintings to The Ranch at Taos Gallery, and we did several road trips. This is from one of them. We spent a day in Bandalier hiking along the trails that were formed from an exploding volcano over 1.5 million years ago. The Ancestral Pueblo people lived here for over 400 years and made caves and cliff homes in the soft volcanic ash that turned into a hardened Tuff, from 1150 CE to 1550 CE. The "trails" are in the sky, and the water and all across the rugged hills, even the man made highway that brings you into the caldera. I was also thinking about the trails of time, and who was standing in that spot through the years as so many changes happened. Down below on the green pasture are two horses, my representation of the wild spirit that roams free.
